User accounts
Your marketplace has its own user account system, completely separate from the admin panel. Users register directly on your storefront to create listings, send messages, and manage their posts.
Registration
Users can register by clicking Register in the navigation bar and providing:
- Name — Their display name (shown on listings and messages)
- Email — Used for login and notifications
- Password — Their account password
- Terms acceptance — A required checkbox confirming they agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. The links open each system page in a new tab; both must be accepted to create an account
Registration is quick and doesn't require email verification to start using the marketplace. However, users are encouraged to verify their email — verification is required to receive message notification emails, and a callout in the storefront reminds unverified users to confirm their address.
Member capacity
Each plan has a limit on the total number of registered users across all your marketplaces. If the limit is reached, new registrations will be blocked until the plan is upgraded or existing users are removed. See Billing & plans for plan limits.
Email verification
After registering, users receive an email with a verification link. Clicking the link verifies their email address and marks their account as verified.
Resending the verification email
If a user didn't receive or can't find the verification email, they can request a new one from the verification prompt page. To prevent abuse, this can only be done once per minute.
Users log in by clicking Login in the navigation bar and entering their email and password. After logging in, they're redirected to the homepage and the navigation bar updates to show:
- Inbox — View their conversations with unread count badge
- Post listing — Quick shortcut to the create-listing form
- Account menu — With links to My listings, Inbox, Profile, and Log out
Separate from admin
Marketplace user accounts are completely separate from admin panel accounts. Admin users do not automatically have storefront accounts, and storefront users cannot access the admin panel.
Profile
Logged-in users can manage their identity from the Profile page (under the account menu). The page has three sections.
Profile photo
Users can upload a profile photo (JPG, PNG, or WebP up to 20MB). The photo appears:
- Next to their messages in conversations
- On their public seller profile
- As a badge on their listings in the admin moderation view
A photo can be removed at any time.
Profile information
Users can edit:
- Name — Their display name (shown on listings and messages)
- Bio — A short description shown on their public seller profile (up to 1,000 characters)
- Email — Used for login and notifications
Changing the email resets the email verification status, and the user must verify the new address.
Password
Users can change their password by entering their current password and a new one. The new password must pass the standard validation rules.
Forgot your password?
Users who can't sign in can use the Forgot password? flow from the login page instead — see Password reset below.
Public seller profile
Every user has a public profile page at /users/{id}. It shows:
- Their avatar and name (as "Hi, I'm …")
- Their bio, if they've added one
- All of their active listings in a grid — closed and expired listings are hidden
Other users reach a seller's profile by clicking the seller's name or avatar on a listing detail page. This makes it easy to see everything a seller is offering at a glance.
Password reset
If a user forgets their password, they can reset it:
- Click Login in the navigation bar
- Click Forgot password?
- Enter their email address
- Check their email for a reset link
- Click the link and enter a new password
Password reset links expire after 60 minutes for security. Users can request a new reset link if the previous one has expired.
Logging out
Users can log out at any time from the account menu. After logging out:
- They can still browse listings and view listing details
- They cannot create listings, edit listings, or send messages
- They cannot access My Listings, Inbox, or Profile pages
- Their unread message badge is no longer visible
Account isolation
Each marketplace site has its own separate user database:
- A user who registers on one marketplace does not have an account on your other marketplaces
- Users must register separately on each marketplace site
- User data (listings, messages, profile) is isolated per site
This means if you run multiple marketplace sites, each has its own independent community of users.
